What H5 (HS - Cooktop Hot Surface Indicator) Means
H5, also shown as HS, is explicitly not an error - LG's range Help Library article states it indicates the cooktop surface temperature is greater than 150°F, purely as a warning that the surface is too hot to touch safely, not a malfunction.
Common Causes of H5 (HS - Cooktop Hot Surface Indicator)
- Cooktop surface is genuinely still hot from recent use (normal)
- Surface temperature sensor stuck reading hot even after the surface has cooled (needs a breaker cycle, then service if it persists)
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Simply let the surface cool naturally before touching it; if the surface has actually returned to room temperature and the H5/HS indicator still won't turn off, that's the point where LG says to cycle the circuit breaker (off, wait 30 seconds, back on) and, if it persists after that, request service.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Never touch a cooktop surface showing H5/HS to test whether it's actually still hot - trust the indicator and let it clear on its own, since a genuinely hot glass-ceramic or induction surface can cause a real burn.
