LG Appliance Repair, Diagnosed Against the Right Code List
A washer stopping on OE, a refrigerator that runs without cooling, a dryer warning about its duct, an air conditioner showing CH and two digits? We work on LG and nothing else. The code is read against the scheme that actually applies to your machine, the price is agreed before anything is opened, and our own labor warranty covers the work.

What Your LG Error Code Is Telling You
LG runs four separate error code schemes, and which one applies depends on the appliance rather than on the code. This matters more here than with most brands, because the schemes overlap: LE on a front-load washer is a locked motor, LE on a dishwasher is the cleaning motor, and LE on a Styler is the main fan. AE splits the same way — leak detection on a front-load washer, a rotation error on a top-load, overfilling on a dishwasher. Read a code against the wrong list and it will confidently name the wrong part.
- Two letters, such as OE, LE, AE, dE, tE
- Washers, dryers, dishwashers, the Styler and the WashCombo. The largest of the four schemes, and the one where the same letters mean different things on different machines
- F followed by a number, such as F3, F11, F27
- Ranges, cooktops and the over-the-range microwave. LG publishes these under a single range and cooktop list, which is why an oven-cavity problem is found there rather than under wall ovens
- A prefix and a pair, such as Er FF, F dH, CH E
- Refrigeration. Several of these are grouped in LG documentation under one shared explanation rather than given individual meanings, and where that is the case we say so instead of inventing a difference
- CH and two digits, such as CH01, CH24, CH61
- Air conditioners and dehumidifiers. Note the trap here: on a room air conditioner F1, F2 and F3 are fan-speed indicators and not errors at all, while on a system unit F2 and F3 are sensor failures
- CL, tCL, Cd, Sb, HS, dn1 to dn4, FL
- Not errors. Child lock, tub-clean reminder, cool-down, Sabbath mode, hot-surface warning, downloaded Styler cycles and a full water tank respectively
193 LG error codes documented on this site, each one written from the manufacturer's own material. Where a code has no published meaning, we say so instead of inventing one.
Two things catch LG owners out. The first is the overlap: the model number matters as much as the code, so have the model and serial plate on hand when you call and we can usually narrow the problem before anyone is dispatched. The second is that a fair number of the displays people call about are not errors — a lock, a reminder, a mode someone switched on by accident. We would rather tell you that on the phone than send a technician to press a button you could have pressed yourself.
Recognize the Warning Signs
These are the issues we get called about most. If any of this sounds familiar, it is worth a diagnostic visit before the problem gets worse.
Washer stops with water still in the drum
With the machine switched off at the wall and the drum cool, the drain pump filter behind the lower panel is the first thing to check, and it is worth having a shallow tray ready because it will hold water. A filter thick with lint, a drain hose looped too high, or a load that has produced more suds than the machine can clear will each end the cycle the same way. If the filter is clean and the hose sits correctly, the pump itself goes on a meter. See likely causes →
Refrigerator runs constantly but will not get cold
Long before anything is opened, a thermometer left in the fresh-food section for a few hours tells us more than the display does. Food that has thawed and refrozen looks fine and is not evidence that the cabinet held temperature, which is why we measure rather than judge by eye. From there the split is between a defrost or fan problem, which is an ordinary repair, and the sealed system, which is a different conversation and we will say so plainly. See likely causes →
Dryer takes two or three cycles to finish
LG dryers watch their own exhaust and will say so, which is genuinely useful: a duct warning is the machine reporting restriction rather than a part that has failed. With the dryer unplugged and cool, the lint filter and the duct behind it are the first places to look. Where the duct is clear and the warning persists, the moisture sensor and the heater circuit are measured. See likely causes →
Front-load washer walks across the floor on spin
On a top-load machine an unbalance warning is usually the load rather than the machine, and redistributing it settles the matter. On a front-load machine that moves, the first suspects are the leveling feet and, on a recently delivered unit, the shipping bolts that should have come out at installation. Suspension and drum bearings are measured only once those are ruled out. See likely causes →
Range or oven heats to the wrong temperature
An oven that is out by a consistent amount across the range is usually a calibration offset, which is an adjustment rather than a part. An oven that is accurate at one setting and wrong at another points at the sensor itself. We measure the cavity against the dial at more than one temperature, because drift is rarely uniform and one reading can send the whole diagnosis the wrong way. See likely causes →
Two appliances in one cabinet, one error code
A WashTower or a WashCombo is two machines sharing a control panel, and the useful first question is which half is actually reporting. A washer code and a dryer code look alike on that single display, and the shared panel can fail in its own right while both machines underneath it are sound. Establishing which of the three it is comes before any part is discussed. See likely causes →
Why Homeowners Trust Us With Their LG Appliances
One Make, Read Correctly
LG does not use one code system, it uses four. Two-letter codes on laundry, dishwashers and the Styler. Numeric F-codes on ranges and cooktops. Prefixed codes on refrigeration. CH codes on air conditioning. Looked up against the wrong list, a code names the wrong part.
Measured, Not Swapped
A code names a circuit, not a part. The suspect part goes on a meter and is shown to have failed before it appears on your estimate. A suspicion is not a diagnosis, and you should not pay for one.
The Price Before the Panel Comes Off
You get the problem, the reasoning behind it and the cost, agreed in advance. If a repair is not worth doing on a machine of that age, we will tell you that instead of quoting it.
Not Every Display Is a Problem
CL is a child lock. tCL is a tub-clean reminder. Sb is Sabbath mode. HS means a cooktop surface is still hot. Several of the codes people call us about are the machine working correctly, and we would rather say so on the phone than charge for a visit.
Why a LG Specialist Beats a General Repair Shop
A LG specialist focuses exclusively on LG appliances, carries LG-specific parts in every service vehicle, and trains technicians specifically on LG diagnostic procedures. A general repair shop works across dozens of brands and often doesn't stock parts — or carry deep expertise — for a less common model.
| Capability | Us · LG Specialist | General Repair Shop |
|---|---|---|
| LG parts in stock | Always | Sometimes |
| LG-trained technicians | Every tech | Maybe one |
| Knows current + legacy models | Every series | Limited |
| Repair warranty included | 30 days | Varies |
| Background-checked technicians | Required | Varies |
