What Sud (Excessive Suds) Means
Sud means the washer detected too many suds and automatically added a suds-reducing cycle, which extends the wash time by roughly two hours; if excess suds are detected again during spinning, the washer stops to help prevent leaking. Common Causes of Sud (Excessive Suds)
- Too much detergent used for the load size
- Non-HE (non-high-efficiency) detergent used, which oversudses in front-load washers
- Liquid detergent cup overfilled past the Max line
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Use only the manufacturer-recommended amount of HE (high-efficiency) detergent for your load size, and if you're using liquid detergent, fill it only to the Max line in the dispenser drawer - using standard (non-HE) detergent or simply too much is the most common cause of a Sud notification.
