What UE (Unbalance Error) Means
UE means the load has bunched up on one side of the drum, or the washer itself isn't level, so the tub can't spin safely balanced - documented consistently on both LG's front-load and top-load washer pages.
Common Causes of UE (Unbalance Error)
- Bulky item (comforter, pillow, rug) washed alone or mixed with a regular load
- Very small load bunching to one side rather than distributing evenly
- Washer not level, or feet not making firm contact with the floor
- Single mesh laundry bag washed alone instead of with other items
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Pause the washer, redistribute the load evenly around the drum (especially bulky single items like a comforter, which should be washed alone on a bedding/duvet cycle), and check that the machine is level by placing a level on top front-to-back and side-to-side, adjusting the front leveling feet with a wrench if it rocks.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Repeatedly overriding a UE fault to force a spin on an unbalanced load risks the drum striking the cabinet, which can cause real damage beyond the original laundry problem.
- If the washer is level and the load is reasonably distributed but UE still triggers consistently, worn suspension components inside the cabinet may need a technician's inspection.
- Items genuinely unsuited to machine washing (bath mats, rubber-backed items, memory foam) can throw off balance in ways redistributing the load won't fix, and forcing them through a spin cycle risks damaging both the washer and the item.
