What Demo Mode / Display Mode Means
Demo Mode (also called Display Mode) is a retail-floor setting that disables all cooling to save energy while a unit sits on a showroom floor. LG's Help Library is explicit that this is a feature, not an error - if it's active at home, the refrigerator simply won't cool until it's turned off.
Common Causes of Demo Mode / Display Mode
- Unit was purchased with Demo Mode still active from the store floor
- Buttons were pressed accidentally in a combination that re-enabled it
- A factory reset re-armed the default retail setting
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
With either refrigerator door open, press and hold the REFRIGERATOR and ICE PLUS buttons together for about five seconds until you hear a beep and the temperature settings reappear on the display, confirming Demo Mode is off.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- There's no repair step here at all - treating a Demo Mode refrigerator as a broken unit and calling for service means paying a visit fee for a two-button reset.
- If you're not sure whether Demo Mode is the cause, check that the display truly shows "OF F" or similarly blank cooling settings before assuming a real cooling fault.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
