What FE, E04, E12 Means
FE means the washer detected water overfilling the drum, per LG's front-load and top-load washer Help Library articles alike (the top-load list treats FE as a straightforward overfill error). LG notes extra water sometimes enters through the detergent dispenser rather than the main fill.
Common Causes of FE, E04, E12
- Water entering through the detergent dispenser outside of a normal fill
- Water level sensor misreading the true water level
- Water inlet valve stuck partially open
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check whether water is being supplied continuously through the detergent dispenser drawer even when the washer isn't actively filling, then unplug the washer, wait 60 seconds, and restart a short cycle (like Quick 30) to see if it drains and fills normally.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- If FE persists after a reset and the dispenser isn't the source, the water level sensor or inlet valve needs a technician's inspection - both require opening the cabinet, not a surface-level check.
- An overfilling washer risks water escaping past the door seal or dispenser tray, so don't keep restarting the same cycle hoping it resolves itself if FE repeats.
