What tE (Heating / Temperature Error) Means
tE indicates a heating error, usually caused by a faulty thermistor (temperature sensor), per LG's front-load washer article; LG's top-load article adds that pouring very hot water directly into the tub, or a loose sensor connector, can trigger the same code.
Common Causes of tE (Heating / Temperature Error)
- Thermistor (temperature sensor) has failed
- Very hot water poured directly into the tub
- Loose or disconnected sensor wiring
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
If you recently poured hot water directly into the tub (some owners do this for stain removal), unplug the washer and let the water cool before reconnecting; otherwise, unplug for about 10 seconds, reconnect, and once the tub has drained, restart the cycle.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- If tE persists after a proper reset and you haven't poured hot water into the tub, the thermistor itself needs replacement by a technician, since it's inside the tub assembly.
- Continuing to run cycles that need heated water (sanitary, allergen cycles) with a faulty thermistor risks water heating incorrectly, so switch to cold-only cycles until it's repaired rather than ignoring the code.
