CL E (also Er CL) indicates a low-side refrigerant leak, most likely from the evaporator, per LG's error-code list. As with CH E, LG's combined Er CH/Er CL article treats this as an insufficient-cooling fault with the same possible causes and states there are no troubleshooting steps available.
Common Causes of CL E / Er CL (Low Side Refrigerant Leak)
- Refrigerant leak in the low-pressure side of the sealed system (often the evaporator)
- Insufficient refrigerant charge
- Compressor or valve component failure
- A blockage somewhere in the sealed refrigerant system

- The evaporator sits behind the freezer's rear panel, so even locating a low-side leak means partial disassembly best left to someone with the right leak-detection equipment.
- Running the compressor against a refrigerant leak for an extended period can damage the compressor itself, turning a refrigerant repair into a much larger one.
